Welcome! We are David and Susanna Brown, and we are honored that you have taken a minute to visit us here. We hope you will partner with us on this journey. Thank you for stopping by!
What we are up to…
We are overjoyed to share that we are in the process of growing our family through the adoption of a little boy in Taiwan, Lord willing. While this news might be surprising to some, many of you know we have been praying about adoption for more than a decade. It is something we’ve thought about often as we have waited on God to open a door for us to move forward. In December of 2016 we contacted Lifeline Children’s Services without any specific plan in mind. We had a brief exploratory meeting where we asked a lot of questions and let them know we hoped the Lord would bring a child into our family through adoption at some point in the future. To our surprise, we received a call the next business day asking us to pray about a little boy that has been waiting for a family for over a year. As we prayed, there was no doubt in our minds that pursuing this precious child is God’s plan for us. In fact, the privilege of bringing this little guy home would be an unspeakable blessing!
While we would love to share much more about him, we are not officially matched, and therefore, must wait patiently on God’s timing. We are eager to introduce him to you as soon as we get the go ahead. Our home study is underway, and we will keep you posted on the process!
We are so grateful to walk through this process with our adoption agency. Lifeline is a unique, holistic Christian ministry dedicated to spreading the Gospel through adoption and orphan care. It is Hague-accredited and has been ministering to vulnerable children as well as birth and adoptive families for over 30 years.
Why we are adopting…
You may be wondering why we are pursuing adoption. Adoption is a tangible picture of the love we were shown in Christ.
God is holy and we were separated from him because of our sin. God sent his Son, Jesus, to earth to live a sinless life and die a cruel death on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin and to reconcile us to our heavenly Father. Jesus made a way for us to be adopted into the family of God. Galatians 4:3-7 says, “In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
When we consider our own spiritual adoption into God’s family, our hearts well up with a desire for God to grow our family through earthly adoption. We love children! Children are unspeakable gifts from the Lord, and we are so excited to introduce Wheeler, Tommy, Mac and Betsy to their new brother one day soon.
We would love to share some resources that have been encouraging to us as we have considered adoption. One of our favorites is a sermon by Russell Moore. Click here or on the link in the sidebar to the right.
We also love Dr. Moore’s book, Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families and Churches. If you want to learn more about adoption it is a great place to start! Click here or on the Resource tab at the top for more information.
We need your help…
There are many hurdles with international adoption, but we believe with God’s help we can “scale a wall” (Psalm 18:29). We need so much prayer as we jump over the walls of paperwork, fundraising, travel, and preparing our family for this blessing.
- Please Pray for God’s protection over this little boy. Pray with us that someone in the orphanage will take a special interest in him and care for him until we can bring him home.
- Pray that his physical, spiritual, emotional, and medical needs will be met and that he will grow and thrive during these months of waiting.
- Lifeline estimates the time between now and when we would travel to bring him home is approximately 15-18 months. Pray that God will superintend the process and move things along at a supernatural pace. We are eager to close the gap of time and space between us.
- Pray for financial provision. We are actively saving as well as preparing to apply for several grants that we hope will help with the significant financial cost associated with international adoption. Because of you, our t-shirt fundraiser was a tremendous blessing, and there are more ways to partner with us coming soon! Please help us spread the word. We’d love for you to post fundraisers on your social media sites and help us network with others who love adoption! Click here or on the Join Us tab at the top of the page.
Thank you so much for being invested in our lives and the lives of our children. We are continually blessed by God’s faithfulness to us through each of you. We love you!
